Fillings
When Dr. Porter or Dr. Atkins notice a sticky spot of decay on a tooth, they clean the sticky spot off and in some cases patch the spot with a simple filling.
Crowns
Broken or decayed teeth can be restored using a number of tooth colored materials. These restorations or crowns are bonded to the tooth and can actually increase the strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns no longer have to be silver or gold but can be matched to the patients’ natural tooth shade.
Root Canal Treatment
Deep tooth decay, or an injury, can cause serious damage and infection to the tooth pulp’s nerves and vessels. A root canal, also called endodontic treatment, cleans out the infected pulp chamber. This procedure kills the sensitivity and unfortunately eliminates the blood supply to the tooth. Without blood supply, the tooth becomes brown and brittle. A crown is fitted around the tooth to ensure tooth stability.
